Since 1989, AAASP has offered any sport performance enhancement professional who meets specific criteria (education and training) the opportunity to become recognized as a "Certified Consultant, AAASP" (Zizzi, Zaichkowsky, & Perna, 2002).
With regard to certification and licensure, it would be beneficial to explore the degree of credibility athletes afford SPCs who are AAASP Certified or licensed psychologists.
Nationwide, AAASPS recruited 1,809 adults who had experienced a noncardioembolic, ischemic stroke between 7 and 90 days before inclusion in the study.
At entry, 85% of the AAASPS subjects had hypertension, 42% had diabetes, 42% had hypercholesterolemia, 47% had a family history of stroke, 67% were current or past smokers, and 67% reported getting no leisure time exercise.
In Chicago alone, the effort involved 200 churches, along with Operation PUSH (People United to Save Humanity), African American physicians, and stroke patients who helped plan the study Nationwide, AAASPS recruited 1,809 adults who had experienced a noncardioembolic, ischemic stroke between 7 and 90 days before inclusion in the study.
