Although Indiana has fallen short of actually adopting the APENS examination, a task force debated effectively to combine adapted physical education and National Association for Sport and Physical Education New Beginning Teacher standards as the best solution to training preservice physical educators.
The requirement to take the APENS exam may make sense for states without adapted physical education credential programs, but it makes no sense for California, which does have a credential program.
The Adapted Physical Education Program at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is a full minor program based on APENS competencies and student engagement with individuals with disabilities in all of the courses.
