Such a group was not available during OEF-P or OIF II, so with great foresight, the commanders of the JTF (Brigadier General Wurster) and the ARSOTF (Colonel Fridovich) during OEF-P, and the CJSOTF commander during OIF II, made their best efforts to bring those with the greatest possible knowledge and expertise in each of these areas into the production of the planning-and-assessment tool. The ARSOTF was also responsible for the two SF detachments (180 at Isabela and 150 at Lamitan) that supported the 103rd Infantry Brigade Army Task Group Thunder, which controlled the northern half and southeastern sector of Basilan, and SF Bdetachment 120, which supported the 2nd Marine Brigade Task Group Tornado at Maluso in the southwest sector. Because the handgun became the primary weapon for force protection, proficiency was critical, but pistol and rifle qualification were taken for granted at JTF-510 and at the ARSOTF headquarters. |
