Kyrgyz architects will present their projects for the Aga Khan Award for Architecture 2010 at the Aga Khan Award for Architecture Regional Seminar organized in collaboration with the Kyrgyz Union of Architects on October 23-24, 2009.
Tanjong Jara Refuge won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture for its updated interpretation of a 17th-century sultan's palace.
And in contrast to the Muslim totalitarians who are funding architectural projects which impose Middle Eastern architectural forms on Asia and Africa, the Aga Khan Award for Architecture recognizes architects who use the Islamic heritage in creative ways to improve the built environment in a culturally appropriate and respectful manner.
