Despite new bankruptcy laws enacted last fall to make it harder to declare personal bankruptcy, filings in California jumped more than 30 percent from 2004 to 2005, the American Bankruptcy Institute reports.
The American Bankruptcy Institute estimates that anywhere from 30,000 to 210,000 potential bankruptcy filers will be disqualified under the new law.
