The first edition of the Dictionary, published between 1977 and 1992 by the Modern Humanities Research Association in conjunction with the Anglo-Norman Text Society, was enhanced from the fifth volume onward by important new material, which added immensely to the knowledge of non-literary uses of the language.
In particular he has made use of the new translation of the Middle French epic poem, History of William Marshall, published by the Anglo-Norman Text Society.
