People were questioned on subjects including cleanliness, retail, crime and public transport in the annual questionnaire - the first to be carried out since the completion of the pounds 1bn Liverpool One development and the pounds 73m city centre movement strategy, which has improved roads, pavements and pedestrian crossings.
Annual questionnaires were given, asking both groups to report running and exercise frequency, BMI, and disability as assessed by the Health Assessment Questionnaire Disability Index, which scores from zero (no difficulty) to three (unable to perform).
The subjects were followed for up to 10 years for the development of cancer with high rates of completion of annual questionnaires, and the confirmation of reported cancer endpoints.
