At the Arctic Wildlife Refuge, more than 190 species of birds converge following epic migrations from six continents. The energy plan passed by Congress last August would give away $27 billion in taxpayer subsidies and tax breaks to the fossil-fuel, auto and nuclear industries, and it would open the Arctic Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas drilling. Eban Goodstein, Economics Professor at Lewis and Clark College, believes ExxonMobil's allies in Congress are using higher gasoline prices as an excuse to justify drilling in the fragile Arctic Wildlife Refuge. |
