For its part, the Art Loss Register operates the world's largest private, computerized database of stolen artworks, antiques and collectibles.
No statistics for art theft were available immediately for Los Angeles, but the Art Loss Register in New York City reports heists have more than doubled in the past six years.
Christie's has established and supports a system whereby, in addition to our own research, we work with secondary sources, in this case the Art Loss Register, to help identify lost works of art.
