The BGMEA, which groups 4,500 export-oriented garment factories, said firms need subsidies worth 10 percent of the value of their exports to stay competitive. It took a year of negotiations for an agreement to be signed by UNICEF, the ILO and the Asian-American Free Labour Institute asking the BGMEA to stop firing underage workers until a school system and other measures were in place. |
