The BIMST-EC, which stands for Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand Economic Cooperation, was established in 1997 as a subregional economic cooperation grouping to link South Asia and Southeast Asia.
India proposed the feasibility study to Myanmar at the BIMST-EC foreign ministerial meeting in Phuket, Thailand, in February last year, the paper said.
