The version of Turkey which beat down a women's demonstration in Istanbul using ridiculously violent means is not a nation which belongs in the modern European community," wrote Denmark's Berlingske Tidende on the same day. Following the ignoble tradition of London's Evening Standard, the local press has been quick to turn a few isolated incidents into an indictment of the entire project: a journalist from the Berlingske Tidende reported in October 2003 that he was able 'quite easily' to extract large stones from the gabions at the new Lindevang station, and indeed found several of these stones 'lying around' the station entrance. The Danish newspaper Berlingske Tidende has given its annual Award of Honor to Frank Andersen, former principal dancer and artistic director of Denmark's Royal Danish Ballet, and an international ambassador of the Bournonville style. |
