Total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy were performed and subsequently revealed giant cell arteritis involving numerous small arteries in the ovaries, fallopian tubes, paraovarian and paratubal soft tissues, myometrium, and cervix. The patient also had an extensive surgical history, which included appendectomy, hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, cholecystectomy, tonsillectomy, bilateral cataract surgery, carpal tunnel release, bladder repair, breast reduction, and placement of steel plate in her pelvis secondary to multiple pelvic fractures. The patient had total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for a preoperative diagnosis of myoma uteri. |
