has released its BiPAP [R] Synchrony [TM] Ventilatory Support System--the newest member of Respironics' BiPAP family. [66-68] Despite the lack of research on the effects of CPAP or BiPAP on the exercise performance of patients with CHF, resting myocardial performance has repeatedly been observed to improve with CPAP in patients with CHF[69-71] and in patients with CHF and coexistent obstructive or central sleep apnea. Although SARS transmission that involved intubation and BiPAP (9) have been reported, this episode is unique in that the patient was neither conscious nor breathing at the time of the intubation, and the intubation procedure was performed quickly and without difficulty. |
