Transtar operates five railroads, an inplant switching operation, a barge line and a stevedoring company, including Union Railroad Company (URR), Birmingham Southern Railroad Company (BSRR), Lake Terminal Railroad Company (LT), McKeesport Connecting Railroad Company (MKC), and Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway Company (EJE) which is one of the largest switching and terminal railroads in the U.
As a result of this transaction, USX has become the sole owner of Transtar and its remaining direct subsidiaries--the Birmingham Southern Railroad Company; the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway Company; the Lake Terminal Railroad Company; the McKeesport Connecting Railroad Company; the Mobile River Terminal Company, Inc.
