The host quoted a study showing that the majority of Americans disapproved of breastfeeding in public when, in fact, ABC's own online poll, "Public Breastfeeding: Tacky or Tactful," shows that 75 percent of respondents find breastfeeding in public totally acceptable. College of Midwives midwifery adviser Norma Campbell said it was "sad but necessary" to have legislation to protect breastfeeding mothers and their babies and that there were enough examples of women breastfeeding in public places being told to stop, to justify the legislation. Seventy-seven per cent of respondents reported that they did not feel embarrassed or uncomfortable when seeing a woman breastfeeding, with 85% agreeing with public policy to support breastfeeding in public places. |
