They were very shiny, with the words Yuribee Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade in fancy letters on the doors, and some kind of coat-of-arms thing.
It is a tragedy that great upsurges of community spirit such as those of the Olympic Games volunteers and the NSW bush fire brigades -- co-operatives in all but name -- are allowed to pass without their lessons about the present contribution and future potential of communities being properly acknowledged, or appropriate conclusions for public policy being derived from them.
