The Business Energy Tax Credit program, created in 1979 and expanded three years ago, allows renewable energy companies to receive a state tax credit for up to half the cost of a new power-generating plant.
As an additional stimulus for the expansion of renewable energy sources, the benefit of the business energy tax credit has been expanded for wind energy projects with capacity of less than 100 kilowatts.
The report cites several examples of effective tax credit programs, including the Oregon Business Energy Tax Credit, which helps offset the cost to businesses for sustainable strategies if a building meets the LEED Silver level of certification.
