Now there is nothing wrong with faculty being required to show scholarship, but CAPTE does not consider as scholarship activities such as obtaining an advanced degree, becoming board certified in a specialty area, advising graduate students on their research, submitting a thesis, or submitting a graded scholarly paper as part of doctoral work.
3,6) The CAPTE adopted new evaluative criteria, effective January 2006, that require scholarly activity for the core faculty of physical therapist education programs.
CAPTE joined the Council far Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), the Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors (ASPA), the American Council on Education (ACE), and other accrediting and educational organizations in calling for significant changes in the "College Access and Opportunity Act," HR 428,3, before it is considered by the House Education and the Workforce Committee.
