The return of the USNS Benavidez to begin the redeployment was significant because it's the same vessel, which began the initial movement of the 1st CAV on December 17, 2003 on its maiden voyage from the Port of Beaumont, Texas.
The CAV will be an unpowered, maneuverable, hypersonic glide vehicle capable of carrying about 1,000 pounds of munitions with a range of about 3,000 nautical miles.
