According to figures from the country's Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), the number of industry fatalities increased from 54 in 2004-05, to 81 in 2005-06, 79 in 2006-07 to a shocking 162 in 2007-08, although CIDB believes that the figures have been consistently underreported.
CIDB will also host a forum on the second day of the exhibition to deliberate on the experiences and expertise of the Malaysian construction industry to delegates and visitors.
The preliminary results of a CIDB investigation into the state of the sector has revealed that rising capital expenditure is likely to unveil a lack of capacity in the sector.
