The amount of the minimum wage is set annually by the CNSM committee, which is made up of representatives from business and organized labor, and presided over by Gonzalez, a government appointee. The CT and other labor organizations had sought an across-the-board increase of 25% in the minimum wage, but labor representatives in the CNSM were unable to push through a raise this large. While some labor sector activists complain that the wage increase is not sufficient, CNSM officials have said only that the government needs to work harder in keeping inflation in check to give more weight to the minimumwage increase. |
