In recent years, CPHI has released several reports exploring social inequalities in health using an ABSM developed by the Institut national de sante publique du Quebec: L'indice de defavorisation.
During the Canadian Public Health Association's 2012 annual conference, CPHI hosted Area-Based Socio-Economic Measures to Measure and Improve Disparities in Health--a pre-conference workshop where participants had the opportunity to engage many of the authors who contributed to this special issue of the journal.
In the fall of 2012, CPHI continued to build on this work with the launch of a new eLearning course entitled Reducing Gaps: Using Area Based Socio-economic Measures to Explore Population Health.
Over the last decade, CPHI has examined the respective relationships to health of variations in income, gender and urban-rural differences.
CPHI continues to work with researchers and policy stakeholders to encourage research designed to identify gaps in the population health evidence base and to address questions of what works and what does not work from a policy and program perspective.
