The Afghan drug trafficking poses a threat to the Central Asian region and the entire world, said Mikhail Melikhov, Deputy Secretary of the CSTO Coordination Council of Heads of Counter-Drug Agencies, at the international conference on fight against terrorism and extremism that started today in Bishkek. The CSTO controls a key land route from Europe to Afghanistan and is sometimes billed as a counterweight to Nato. Dmitry Medvedev, the Russian president, said that the leaders of CSTO nations signed a declaration on Friday condemning an attack by Georgia which was aimed at regaining control of its breakaway province of South Ossetia. |
