The cancer potency factor has historically been a linear extrapolation from the high-dose animal or human studies to the low doses of environmental exposure using either a maximum likelihood estimate (for epidemiology) or the upper 95% confidence limit (for animal studies) on the dose response. For this study, inhalation and oral cancer potency factors were included. The preferred protocol bases the cancer potency factor on tumor incidence in the most sensitive individual site. |
