It was not really until after the Second World War, and notably in the Pininfarina design of the lightweight Cisitalia coupe (1946), that we can recognise the all-of-a-piece form of the modern car. After the difficult war years, 1947 was the year of the Cisitalia, the first car to be on permanent display in a modern art museum, the MOMA in New York. From 54th Street, a vivid red Pininfarina Cisitalia (the car that transformed postwar automobile body design) is visible beneath a multi-coloured Donald Judd, topped in turn by the restaurant terrace. |
