The first English translation of the Bible made in the Third World, this version was published by the Claretian Missionaries in the Philippines. In 1924, not long after the chapel was founded by a Chicago Jesuit, Cardinal-elect George Mundelein asked the Claretian Missionaries, a Spanish order, to assume responsibility for the mission to Chicago's Mexican-Americans. In both Chicago and in California, Thomas worked closely with the Claretian Missionaries to encourage devotion and support the Claretian missions to the forgotten, oppressed, and underprivileged throughout the world. |
