Also in 2002, at the World AIDS Conference in Barcelona, President Clinton started the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI) to assist developing countries in implementing large-scale, integrated, care, treatment and prevention programs that will turn the tide on the epidemic.
Additionally, 2009 honorees include, President Bill Clinton for his immeasurable achievements through the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI); Sir Richard Branson, who has cultivated sustainable change worldwide with Virgin Unite; and Senegalese singer and African Ambassador Youssou N'Dour, for his incredible efforts to combat malaria and poverty.
Kindler, Chairman and CEO of Pfizer stated that, "Pfizer is pursuing numerous global health projects like this one with the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative to find new ways to connect people to the medicines they need.
