It is this spherical graphite shape that gives ductile iron its higher strength compared to gray or vermicular and compacted graphite irons, as well as the ability to appreciably elongate before fracture. Compacted graphite iron (CGI) is used for both the 60[degrees] cylinder block and bedplate, while the heads are DOHC aluminum units with four valves per cylinder. This development represents an extension of the original technical collaboration that was established to develop automated solutions for the reliable high volume production of Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) from pressurised pouring furnaces. |
