The City Council's Ad Hoc Business Tax Reform Committee made the recommendation to the full City Council after being told reductions from last year resulted in a $47 million increase in tax revenue to the city because of greater compliance and enforcement.
The agency frequently lowers penalties when companies are able to bring forward mitigating evidence, although that's unlikely in this case, said Jane Hickman, administrator of compliance and enforcement with the DEQ.
The EU RoHS Directive lists compliance and enforcement for six classes of substances, including lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, cadmium, polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ethers.
