The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), which established standards for public playgrounds, provides extensive guidelines, including details of design, materials and the spacing of play elements. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that between 8,000 and 10,000 people are treated in emergency rooms each year for injuries from falling furniture, resulting in on average of six deaths--often children. The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a record-breaking recall in July 2004 when it announced that 150 million toy bracelets, rings, and necklaces should be removed from the market or discarded by parents because they contain high levels of lead. |
