There is no doubt that DIRCM systems are the ultimate protection against IR SAMs, but DIRCM they systems are complex and expensive, possibly too much so for civil airliners, and their jam head needs to be cued by a MAW.
For the first time, a DIRCM system is available to provide fast jets -- primarily tactical fighter aircraft -- with an advanced countermeasure capability against hostile surface and air-launched infrared missiles.
The current WIPPS is also appealing because it has growth potential in the DIRCM area.
