A recent article in the American Journal of Surgery demonstrated that the vascular graft performed similarly to the requirements of the DOQI guidelines for native arteriovenous fistulae and can substantially benefit the dialysis patient with complex or difficult access requirements.
The DOQI guidelines specify that 40% of all chronic hemodialysis patients should be dialyzed through AV fistulae and that no more than 10% of chronic hemodialysis patients should be dialyzed through central venous catheters.
Much of the credit goes to our clinical researcher collaborators who were quick to demonstrate its efficacy and money savings, and the National Kidney Foundation who embraced vascular access monitoring in its 1997 DOQI Guidelines.
