According to a report in National Geographic News, the DTN system, which has entered another phase of testing, will allow astronauts to Google from the moon or tweet their observations from space.
The Infinera DTN is a digital ROADM combining high-capacity transport, integrated bandwidth management and GMPLS-powered network intelligence in a single platform.
DTN sends information using a method that differs from the normal Internet's Transmission-Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, or TCP/IP, communication suite, which Cerf co-designed, NASA said.
