The Denominacion de Origen (DO) for cava is unique in that, unlike the DO for any other wine produced in Spain, it refers to the method of production (methode champenoise) rather than the location in which the grapes are grown. Located in north central Spain, south of the city of Bilbao, Rioja is Spain's most recognized wine region and one of two areas to be designated with the prestigious Denominacion de Origen Calificada (D. population on Spanish wines, Rioja in particular," said Victor Pascual, president of the Consejo Regulador de la Denominacion de Origen Calificada Rioja, the regulatory board that oversees wine production for the Rioja region located in North-central Spain. |
