The volume is an updated edition of the casebook published in 2004, which contained 17 cases presented under the auspices of the Center for Global Development's Global Health Policy Research network and by an international group of researchers in international health, development economics, public policy, and other fields, who collaborated with the Disease Control Priorities Project of the National Institutes of Health and the world's leading health authorities.
To their credit, the Disease Control Priorities Project and other proponents of cost-effectiveness analysis acknowledge that it is only one tool among many that should be used in public health policymaking.
The "best health buys" for developing countries are based on the contributions of more than 500 experts from science, epidemiology, health economics, and public health consulted by the Disease Control Priorities Project.
