The program, funded by the state's Division of Blind Services, allows its therapists to meet with families once a week to teach the children the skills they need to develop at the same pace as their sighted peers.
Aware of these discrepancies and needing accurate data on the number of citizens with visual impairment residing in Florida who are potential users of their services, the Florida Division of Blind Services contracted with the author to conduct a study to identify the characteristics of the population of people with visual impairments in the state.
His wife, Tena, jumped in to help, scheduling an appointment with a representative from the Division of Blind Services who came to visit Judge Donahey a month after his tragic surgery.
