That method, created in the mid-1970s by Frederick Sanger of the Medical Research Council in Cambridge, England, starts with the isolation of long strings of double-stranded DNA from cells.
Coiled up in each chromosome is a long, double-stranded DNA molecule.
The drug is a bioreductively-activated, hypoxia-selective small molecule that acts primarily in hypoxic regions of tumors, wherein tirapazamine radicals cause double-stranded DNA breaks.
