In America doulas are trained and accredited by a central organisation called Doulas of North America (DONA) which has more than 5,500 birth and postpartum doula members-www. the Association of Nurse Advocates for Childbirth Solutions, Lamaze International, Doulas of North America and the Coalition for Improving Maternity Services, believe this opinion downplays the risks to mother and baby when unnecessary Caesareans are performed and may be used to deny women informed consent regarding such procedures. The term comes from an ancient Greek word meaning "woman's servant," and in Wilde's case, that person was Cindy Morris, a certified doula and the Florida State representative for Doulas of North America (DONA). |
