and the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi), a non-profit independent foundation, announced today that they have signed a collaboration and license agreement for the clinical development of a promising new drug for the treatment of Chagas disease, a fatal infectious disease that threatens 100 million people in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Nifurtimox-Eflornithine Combination Therapy is the first new medicine in 25 years against a disease that affects 60 million people in sub-Saharan Africa, the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) group said in a statement.
Through Doctors Without Borders, the Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative is working with pharmaceutical companies to develop better treatments.
