EBLEX economic and policy adviser, Michael Kolesnikow said: "From the start of this season to the second week in June lambs averaged 179p/kg live weight - a full 43% up on last year and 18% higher than 2006 - making outputs of around pounds 103/ewe possible for the typical EBLEX Business Pointers early lambing enterprise compared with just pounds 74/ewe in 2007.
This provides an excellent opportunity to boost returns on dairy and beef herds, EBLEX officials say.
EBLEX beef and sheep scientist, Dr Liz Genever, said: "With a full reseed - including ploughing - currently costing pounds 140/acre, this represents a return on investment of between 350% and 550% in output alone, depending on the pasture concerned.
