MicroAire has always believed that high-quality training is key to the success of its ECTR system," said Greg Jones, Orthopedic Specialties General Manager at MicroAire.
The benefits, reliability, safety and efficacy of MicroAire's SmartRelease ECTR system are supported by an impressive body of clinical data, including a randomized, prospective study involving more than 1,000 patients in 63 surgery centers(1).
MicroAire's SmartRelease ECTR system is a minimally invasive, endoscopic treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome, providing a clear alternative to open-hand surgery.
This type of minimally invasive surgery is called Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release, or ECTR.
MicroAire introduced the new minimally invasive SlimLine(TM) cannula as a component of its SmartRelease(TM) ECTR system during the annual meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, held last week in San Diego, California.
MicroAire's new SlimLine(TM) ECTR cannula retains the top-width of its original cannula, but the sides of the new cannula are angled downward and inward to reduce overall volume by 30%.
Because surgeons who perform ECTR observe the treatment on a video monitor, the new SlimLine(TM) cannula is also designed to improve the surgeon's field of view by up to 10% compared to MicroAire's previous cannula.
As a result of the agreement, MicroAire will now license its patented ECTR technology to Arthrex for an undisclosed fee; and both companies will maintain MicroAire's practice of requiring surgeon training for this procedure.
Current ECTR members are: Aleksander Kwasniewski (chairman), former President of Poland; Moshe Kantor, President of the European Jewish Congress and of the World Holocaust Forum (co-chairman); Jose Maria Aznar, former Prime Minister of Spain; Erhard Busek, former Vice-Chancellor of Austria and Special Coordinator for the Stability Pact for Southeast Europe; Vaclav Havel, former President of the Czech Republic; Milan Kucan, former President of Slovenia; Alfred Moisiu, former President of Albania; Goran Persson, former Prime Minister of Sweden; Rita Sussmuth, former Speaker of the German Bundestag; Vilma Trajkovska, President of the Boris Trajkovski International Foundation, Macedonia; and Vaira Vike-Freiberga, former President of Latvia.
