Though Utah's geographical benefits are attractive for companies considering relocation or expansion, neither EDCU nor GOED are waiting for businesses to come to them.
With all the efforts targeted at out-of-state companies, EDCU is also working to keep local businesses growing.
But it is the out-of-state businesses that require most of the time and energy of the dozen or so EDCU staffers.
The EDCU staff reflects level of professionalism, boasting several MBAs and two attorneys.
WILMARTH: The EDCU and the state seem to finally be working together instead of competing.
McDONALD: The EDCU is claiming they are bringing leads but they have come through brokers, not the EDCU.
This is a very significant industry in Utah," says Chris Roybal, EDCU
president and CEO.
