The non-hybridized power plant supports this fully autonomous aircraft and an EO/IR payload for a flight endurance that enables relatively low cost, low altitude, ISR missions of up to seven-plus hours in its current configuration. The requirement was to carry a six-tonne payload, including an EO/IR turret, Sigint equipment and a Sar/MTI radar to track targets at 300 km. The Coast Guard chose a tilt-rotor design because it was the smallest UAV that could both be launched off a cutter and carry an EO/IR sensor and multimode radar, according to Sisson. |
