The states are required to inform all Medicaid-eligible children of the availability of EPSDT services, to provide (or arrange the provision of) screening services in all cases when they are requested, and to arrange for (directly or through referral to appropriate agencies or providers) corrective treatment for which the child health screening indicates a need.
This member-focused outreach initiative increased the EPSDT (Early & Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Testing) visits rate from 46 percent to 76 percent for the 1,500 children included in the program.
The NEP is supporting automated programs for WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infant and Children), Commodity Supplemental Food Nutrition (CSFP), Farmers Market, Head Start Program, Immunization Services, Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention, Medicaid EPSDT (Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment), the Rhode Island Kids Net, and other healthcare provider assessments.
