Among fascinating items, Hengel tells how the "legend" of its inspired translation by the seventy elders in Alexandria was accepted by the early church fathers and how its use to confirm Christian teaching such as the virginity of Christ (Isa 7:14) led the Jewish community to use other Greek translations. Very highly recommended reading for members of all Christian denominations and church affiliations, "A Primer On Biblical Studies" also covers analysis and criticism of biblical literature, the writings of the early church fathers, theology, apologetics, and the chronology of the Bible. The early Church Fathers taught that one of the wonders of the Incarnation is that it revealed the deep humility of God, who was born as vulnerable as any one of us and was utterly dependent on his mother and the wider human community for survival. |
