On page 374 of my book AIDS: The Failure of Contemporary Science (London: Fourth Estate, 1996), I suggest use of the term "enveloped transposon" instead of endogenous retrovirus, to avoid the "deadly virus" connotation. Immerge researchers announced the identification of miniature swine that failed to produce porcine endogenous retrovirus (PERV) in cultures of human cells. An additional concern is trans-species transmission of endogenous retroviruses from donor animals, such as porcine endogenous retrovirus (PoERV). |
