To date he has had almost 40 articles published in journals and books, including work in Historical Journal, English Historical Review, Historical Research as well as a chapter in the prestigious Cambridge Urban History of Britain vol.

He should be remembered more for his work as Regius Professor of History at Cambridge and for his part in creating the Cambridge Modern History and the journal, English Historical Review.
