In the United States, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing prints about 35 million notes daily, using a 75-percent-cot-ton, 25-percent-linen paper in which red and blue fibers are embedded to prevent counterfeiting. These include the FBI, Social Security Administration, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, and Departments of Treasury, Transportation and Homeland Security. Bureau of Engraving and Printing tries to ensure the bills are difficult to duplicate by adding security measures like watermarks, color-shifting ink and security threads in the currency. |
