Until the IAC for CAGE is determined, entities required to provide a UID cannot use CAGE as the enterprise identifier component of the UID.
The enterprise identifier of the enterprise that assigned the serial number to the item is the only enterprise identifier in the UID machine-readable code that can use a UID data qualifier for enterprise identifier.
UID Construct #1 (Figure 1) is used if items are serialized within the enterprise and is a combination of the Enterprise Identifier (EID) and the serial number.
UID Construct #2 (Figure 2) is used if items are serialized within the part number and is a combination of the enterprise identifier, the serial number, and the original part number.
There are two methods to construct the UID for an item: (1) Serialization within the Enterprise Identifier, called Construct #1; and (2) Serialization within the Part Number (within the enterprise identifier), called Construct #2.
